Image of character or description :
Chance Constantine is the product of magic in more than one way. He takes after his mother in looks, quite handsome with flowing long blond hair and steely blue eyes with just the meager beginnings of a beard. He’s not terribly tall, but lean, lanky, and quite fit due to his father’s influence that he remain ”strong” as to defend himself. He’s taken on his father’s affectations for long trench coats and simple dress shirts but preferring jeans to slacks, with a worn fedora to keep his golden features hidden.
Also hidden is an array of scars on his body, mostly inflicted when he was just a baby, having been kidnapped by demons. Some of these scars look like runes carved on his flesh but neither he nor his father have been able to decipher their meaning.
one to two paragraphs, in as much detail as you can manage, please):
• Weight: 140
• Height: 5’8”
• Hair color/length/style: blond shoulder length luxurious and flowing
• skin color/complexion: slightly pale but beautiful skin with piercing blue eyes to match
• scars/tattoos/identifying marks: Though none are visible, Chance bears many scars (and not all visible) all over his body.
Family
Father: John Constantine
Mother: Illyana, "Magik", Rasputina
Siblings: none
Children: none
Character Personality:
On first impressions Chance is generally a shy guy, mainly so due to his limited exposure to people as his father had done his best to keep him hidden and in seclusion. He might be a little social inept as well, making him even more awkward in social situations, not having learned all the lingo, or be up to snuff on all things hip. He’s very soft spoken and not apt to speak his mind. Mind wise, however, he’s quite analytical, assessing escape routes and potential danger around every corner. He’s not always accurate and often sees dangers where there is none to be found and often errs on the side of caution perhaps too much.
Then again he’s got some very good reasons why he’s this paranoid. Demons want him. Badly.
Knowing that he’s a demon magnet, and knowing that if he loses his temper, or freaks out, he might transform into one of those self-same demons, he tends to keep people at arm’s length. He’s fine when talking business, helping out somebody with a ghost problem, or somebody needing a protections spell; but unlike his father whom seems able to be charming to anyone, Chance tends to be closed mouthed.
That’s not to say he doesn’t have feelings. He is prone to help when he sees the need, especially to protect the innocent. In that measure he might be a bit foolhardy (which comes with his age), putting himself in harm’s way to save another, but then with his barrage of spells and talismans, he feels he’s better able to face such dangers.
Powers/Weaknesses/Talents
Powers:
• Practicing magician, having learned the craft from his father John. Able to weave and cast mid-ranged spells of protection
• Being mutant, Chance can create portals like his mother Illyana,
• When extremely frightened or angered, he will transform into a flaming brimstone demon. In demon form he is difficult to damage and is resistant to fire (since he’s pretty much on fire already) and conventional weapons. Small caliber shot will not penetrate; midrange caliber will wound.
Weaknesses: (Must have ATLEAST 3, and ATLEAST 1 MUST BE FATAL)
• He is not perfect with his craft. He makes error when casting spells and cannot cast any major spells without great cost to his well being.
• Much like any normal human, he can be shot and/or stabbed and killed just as readily.
• When extremely frightened or angered, he will transform into a flaming brimstone demon. At this point he loses all his human traits including reason and becomes feral like an animal. Cold and cold spells can be effective against him in this beast mode as well as magical spells.
Skills: (Languages, fighting styles and level, things that differ from powers and can be learned)
• Due to his studies of ancient texts, Chance has several arcane and demon languages under his belt, as well as Sanskrit, Latin, Aramaic, Greek, etc.
• He has also been taught self defensive moves and techniques, along with knife fighting and some pistol training. He’s not comfortable using such conventional weapons, preferring to use minimal spells or his wits to escape trouble
• Knowing that spells might not always be the way to go, Chance has also learned some of his father’s Carney tricks and sleight of hand to trick when necessary.
Weapons and mission or battle equipment: (Beside every piece of equipment, please list a brief description of what said device can do, and what it looks like/is made of)
• Chance does carry a small ceremonial silver blade, but uses it more often as a pocket knife than any sort of real weapon.
• He also carries a few talismans to help with casting spells as well. Most are relics from various saints or sorcerers , pieces of bone or cloth or paper sealed in lockets or baubles that he can use to focus his spells through. These trinkets he keeps deep within the pockets of his trench coat and jeans for ease of access.
History
History: After the merging of the worlds, Illyana Rasputina had enlisted the help of John Constantine to help her locate the Sorcerer Supreme. Finding that they shared the same types of losses of friends and family due to their craft, John and Illyana took comfort in each other’s arms while on the search for Stephen Strange.
And thus Chance was conceived.
Now pregnant, Illyana returned to the Xmen to give birth and to raise her child amongst her friends and Xmen family, but the demon Belasco caught wind of the news of Magik’s baby and managed to steal the child away, retreating into the depths of Limbo. Magik made several attempts to rescue her child with the Xmen’s assistance, but realized she would need blood ties to track Chance down and returned to Constantine to let him know that she’d given birth to his son, and the sub sequential kidnapping. Both mother and father descended into Limbo and were able to find their baby. Magik then shoved the child into John’s arms before opening a portal while she stood her ground; holding Belasco at bay while father and child escaped.
That was the last time John and Chance ever saw Illyana again.
Knowing that he could not leave the boy safely in anyone’s care but his own, and not knowing what Belasco might have done to the child while in keep, Constantine took it upon himself to teach the boy the art of magic to protect himself. Chance proved to be an adequate study, easily picking up the ancient languages to speak the spells. John did his best to offer a rounded curriculum as he home-schooled the boy. This may have left out some of the niceties of society as Chance had little exposure to other children his age, but then John was thinking more of the boy’s safety than anything.
When Chance turned 14 he showed that he carried his mother’s mutant talent, opening a portal quite by accident that dumped him and his father right into Limbo. Frightened by the shock coupled with deep seeded and long forgotten memories of this hell as an infant; the curse that Belasco had instilled in the boy took effect, transforming him into a ferocious brimstone demon. Constantine was able to keep the portal open long enough to lure the demon-boy back into the real world, closing the portal before Belasco could sense the intrusion. Only when he shot the boy with a tranquilizer dart did Chance transform back into his human self.
Now that they knew what had been done to Chance during his captivity, Constantine sought to teach the boy to keep calm and in control. Not an easy feat for a teenage boy as Chance seemed to have a few episodes that caused him to transform yet again. More often than not John and Chance had to move to avoid attention and authorities while they searched for a means to break the spell. They still help those in need of the Constantines’ help while looking for answers themselves.
Currently Constantine has left the now 17 year old boy behind while he headed out to follow up on a dangerous lead that might be the end all for the boy’s curse. Chance looks to help keep un the family “business” to pay the bills while his father is away.
